About Us

Our Story

We are a family run farm based on the edge of the Lake District with panoramic views of the Western Fells

Back then

The Stamper family purchased Wellington Farm in 1946 and it is now run by the third generation of Stamper’s; Leigh and Hodgson.

In 2003 Leigh and Hodgson took the decision to diversify the farm and acquired a new herd of Jersey Cows with plans to build a café and produce their very own Jersey Ice Cream. Then officially joined by their wives; Gill and Susan, our café project started.

The cafe opened in 2005 where we were joined by Hodgson & Susan’s Daughter Ashton and later in 2013 by Leigh and Gill’s daughter in law; Debbie.

Now

Whilst we no longer have our own herd, the farm has continued to diversify.

The café serves a wide variety of homemade meals, cakes as well as our now locally famous Wellington Jersey Ice Cream which we still continue to make using Jersey milk to our very own secret family recipe by Leigh Stamper and his niece Ashton.

We have also developed an event site at the farm which is multi-purpose; this has been used in the past for festivals such as CockRock as well as the first Northbound Festival in 2015 in partnership with CN Events, Allerdale B.C and GLL Leisure.

In 2016 our café was awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence , which we have proudly received in 2017, 2018 & 2019.

Recently we installed a biomass system with MANCO energy which now supplies the heating for the cafe and the farm.

We have also been joined by Parkers Riding School and Derwent Air Rifle range both of whom provide activities for the whole family.

The future

Our latest project ‘Wellington Farm Glamping Breaks’ is something that we are very excited about and have been working on behind the scene’s for a while. We are very much looking forward to welcoming our first guests.
